What is The Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET)?

RESNET (Residential Energy Services Network) is a nonprofit organization that sets national standards for home energy ratings and energy-efficient mortgages. Since 1995, they've worked to develop a reliable national market for measuring and improving home energy performance. Their HERS Index (Home Energy Rating System) allows for easy comparison of the energy performance of homes, like looking at the MPG of a car!

Why does it matter?

HERS rated homes have lower costs, higher savings, and are friendly to the environment. By following the standard, professionals can improve the residents quality of life, deliver more accurate home energy ratings, and help reduce energy waste.

What is the 310 Standard?

RESNET 310 is a voluntary consensus standard developed by the Residential Energy Services Network and accredited by ANSI. It outlines procedures for evaluating and verifying the performance of HVAC systems in residential buildings. The standard ensures consistent, high-quality assessments by defining best practices for measuring airflow, refrigerant charge, system design, and installation quality. Compliance is voluntary unless adopted by local codes or programs. Read more on the RESNET website or view the Full Standard and the Watt Meter Addendum.
