What is the difference between a Thermocouple and a Thermistor?

When should I use an Infrared (IR) Thermometer vs. a Contact Probe?

Infrared thermometers (IR guns) are perfect for quickly scanning surface temperatures, finding hot electrical breakers, or checking supply registers from the floor. However, for system charging (superheat/subcooling) or measuring air temperature, a contact probe or air bead is required because IR guns cannot measure air temperature directly and can be inaccurate on shiny metal surfaces due to emissivity.
